Preparing to Apply?
I'm addressing this question to anyone who has gone through the experience of applying for clerkships:
I'll be starting my 2L year in a few weeks and I'd like to apply for a clerkship next year. What can I do now to improve my situation in relation to clerkship applications? I'm at a top 50 school right now - secured a position on law review and mock trial team, top 5% of my class, heavily involved in the community. I've been accepted as a transfer student to both NYU and Michigan; however, I won't know if I've written onto law review until I actually transfer and finish the write-on competition.
So - if I stay, will I have trouble getting a clerkship (small number out of my school, allegedly because students aren't applying) in the future? I suppose the flip side of the argument is that if I leave and do just ok, I would probably have trouble there too? Any advice would be appreciated (including other things I can do - courses to take - etc).
Thanks!
