I am applying for various trial and state appellate court clerkships and with each application I send out the usual materials - personalized cover letter, resume, writing samples, and a print out of my transcript - my question has to do with the recommendation letters.

I worked for a trial court judge after my first year of law school and worked for the state attorney general's office after my second. I general recommendation letters from people at both places - is it okay to send out photo copies of those recommendation letters with my packets?

Because of the sheer volume of courts that I am applying to I thought it would be burdensome for the judge/attorney to write personalized and signed letters to each place and asked them to write a general letter, sign it, and then I could photocopy it.

Is this a bad idea?

Well this forum seems a little dead - anyway I got a clerkship using photocopied letters of recommendation.
